School Uniform

We encourage our children to take a pride in their appearance and believe that wearing school uniform is important in developing a sense of belonging to St Paul's. We therefore ask parents to support us in this policy by ensuring that children are sent to school correctly dressed.

Other important notes on uniform

Backpacks

In the infant school unfortunately there is insufficient space for children to bring a backpack to school.  They will only need to bring their book bag.   In the lower juniors (Years 3 and 4), the children no longer need a book bag and should bring a small backpack of their choice (able to hold an A4 workbook without folding).

Laces

If your child has lace up shoes or trainers, for their safety, independence and self-esteem, please ensure that they can confidently tie and untie them before they wear them to school.

Jewellery, Make-up & Hair

Children may not wear jewellery except for small plain studs if they have pierced ears. These must be removed during PE and other sporting activities, including swimming - they cannot be covered. Teachers are not permitted to remove earrings.

No make-up of any kind, including nail varnish, is permitted - nail varnish remover may be used to remove varnish worn in school.

Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied up.

Hair ties. clips and bands should be plain and not "fashion items".

Extreme hairstyles are not appropriate for school. The use of styling products should be kept to a minimum and children should not have decorative patterns cut into their hair or have hair coloured or dyed.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL CLOTHING WORN TO SCHOOL IS CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.

The Role of Parents

We believe that one of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and PE kit, that is clean, in good repair and that the child's name is written on all items. If a parent has difficulties for any reason with fulfilling this request they are asked to speak confidentially to the office manager, or a senior member of staff, to discuss the issues. Parents should be assured that we will do all we can to help.

Children who arrive at school wearing non-school uniform clothing may be loaned an appropriate item from our nearly new shop to wear for that day. The same system will apply for children who do not have a PE kit. Parents will be contacted to discuss the matter. If there are serious reasons, for example on religious grunds, why parents want their child to wear clothes that differ from the school uniform the school will consider such requests sympathetically. If any parent would like to request a modification to the uniform policy, they should, in the first instance, contact the Head of School.

The only items that must be purchased from Earth Uniform are the logo items. All other items may be purchased from the supplier of your choice.
